Developers’ Top Concern about Land Use:
Overcoming Community Opposition
A recent study conducted by the Partnership for Sustainable Communities found that developers’ top concern about land use is overcoming community opposition to multifamily and targeted affordable housing (67.1% of respondents listed this as their top concern). Next on the list of priorities were obtaining financing for mixed-use and mixed-income developments (45.7%) and finding financing for project features that enhance sustainability (44.5%).
The majority of the respondents (66.9%) of the nationwide survey were unaware of the land use and zoning changes that are in the works in California as a result of AB 32 and SB 375. California is in the forefront of mandating land use and zoning in an effort to attain GHG emissions targets.
