  • MacFarlane Costa Slides: MacFarlane Costa Housing Partners is among the nation’s leading developers of multifamily housing, having developed and/or financed 27,000 apartment units throughout the United States. Partnership for Sustainable Communities thanks Mike Costa for allowing us to make the slides available and for allowing other affordable housing developers to use and modify the slides.
  • The Original Non-Profit Housing (NPH) Toolbox – Updated and Improved! The Non-Profit Housing (NPH) Association of Northern California has updated its original, award-winning toolbox with new information and new tools as well as the original Community Acceptance toolbox. This section includes public brochures and “How To” guides for advocates. Materials address common questions about affordable housing well as techniques for effective advocacy with decision makers and media.
  • Zone for Homes and the Housing Element Toolkit:  Every city and county in the Bay Area had a housing plan or “housing element” due in June 2009. The housing element update process is a great opportunity to change the rules governing the development process. Through the housing element advocates can help identify great sites for future housing, create new revenue streams dedicated to affordable housing and break down regulatory barriers to make it easier to build affordable homes.
  • The Inclusionary Housing Advocacy Toolkit: Inclusionary Housing is a tried and true method of creating affordable housing. Inclusionary policies require new housing developments to include homes affordable to a wide range of incomes.
  • Overcoming NIMBYism: An article in PSC's Policy Center with examples of developments that overcame community opposition and reluctance.
