From Washington, D.C., to Sacramento, Calif., government policy is changing to encourage locationally and environmentally efficient land use and the integration of housing and transit. Private developers are catching on to the wisdom and marketability of sustainable models for their developments. City planners are figuring out how to change old, outmoded practices. And activists and advocates are fighting with new urgency to revitalize older urban centers and promote public transit and biking in our faceless, shapeless “sprawlburbs.”
The time has come to accelerate this new reality with an intelligent, well-thought-out model for community planning and development that will help save our planet.
It’s time to expose the failings of the helter-skelter approach shaped by car culture and initiate a more inclusive and interdisciplinary process that works for everyone in a community.
During the coming months, this site will evolve dramatically as we add resources and information on sustainable community development from across the United States and around the world. Here’s what to look for:
- A searchable database
- News for developers
- News for planners
- News for activists
- Updates on the implementation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions control statutes
Some materials will be free. Others will be available to members only. For more information on membership, email admin@p4sc.org. Click here for a description of how PSC intends to serve developers.
Headquartered in northern California, PSC will be actively involved in planning, land use, and development issues specific to California. However, it is a national organization and serves a national constituency.
