Andre Shashaty is a successful entrepreneur, award-winning writer and editor, and a nationally known expert on urban affairs and real estate development. He has successfully launched, operated, and sold a magazine and conference business; created and raised substantial funding for a national nonprofit prior to PSC; and been a leading advocate for reform and advancement of affordable housing programs. He founded Affordable Housing Finance and Apartment Finance Today magazines and their related conferences, and was editor and publisher of the magazines and president of their parent company. Mr. Shashaty edited both magazines and directed content development for the conferences from their inception through 2008. He sold the magazine and conferences in 2006.
Mr. Shashaty founded the Campaign for Affordable Housing (TCAH), a nonprofit group organized to promote greater public acceptance of affordable housing. He served as executive director on an unpaid basis and built the organization into a viable entity with several hundred thousand dollars in donations in the bank.
As editor of Affordable Housing Finance for 15 years, Mr. Shashaty was widely recognized for his strong editorial voice and for setting a high standard for in-depth coverage of affordable housing finance, government policy, and development strategies nationwide. His reporting on the Department of Housing and Urban Development over three decades has revealed serious problems that have merited criminal investigations, Congressional action, and national media attention.
